Yesterday I saw a strange little bird in the garden.
At first glance, I honestly thought it was a sparrow that was bleeding 😅
I quickly grabbed my phone and took a photo and a short video to send to the local birding group. And decided to grab my camera. I was lucky to get two terrible shoots 🙂
Turns out, it was a Common Linnet (Linaria cannabina) — a bird I had never properly noticed before.
I couldn’t get a perfect picture, but I’m still happily adding it to my bird list 🙂

P.S. Jānis was hospitalized because of urinary tract stones causing severe lower back pain. Jānis is at home with a small temperature and no pain. We will go if the pain comes back or temperature gets higher.

Pretty little bird – I’m not aware of ever having seen one, so would probably have made the same mistake. Sympathetic hugs to Jänis – one of the younger members of our fanily has just been treated for kidney stones & it wasn’t fun – though he now has a little jar with the crystals in it as a souvenir!

Ilze – my very best to Janis. I have had lifelong problems with severe UTIs going right up to the kidneys. (Many times in hospital !) Good his stones are in the bladder . . .I seem to remember there are some medications which decrease their size and he may be able to pass them thru’ his urethra/penis . . . even if this needs an operation – it is not as bad as for kidney stones. I know the pain. Bu..er . . . hope this gets sorted out soon – what a nuisance! Love the look of the pretty bird in the early spring green 🙂 !
OK! If simple medications to make the stones smaller do not work he needs a transurethral cymolitholaplax – the stones are broken into small bits with a laser using a simple ultrasound through a scope – try that on your doc! Sounds impossible – is not so really!

A lovely bird! This sounds like Janis has Kidney Stones. I hope not, the pain is so incredibly intense.
