We Traveled Where Our Food Had Already Been

Sometimes the best little adventures are the unplanned ones.

Yesterday we ordered food, and it was delivered… to the wrong place — 20 kilometers away from us. It’s a new delivery service we tried out of curiosity, and surprise! The food went on its own journey. We had to wait a bit longer, but eventually, we did get it.

After finally eating, we decided to take a short drive — to the exact place where our food had been delivered: Beļavas muiža (Beļava Manor). Our own home also has “muiža” (manor) in its name, which would loosely translate to Chestnutmanor, so maybe that confused the system. Still, it gave us a reason to go on a small adventure.

It was raining, the air smelled fresh, the road was quiet, and everything looked extra green and alive. We visited Beļava Manor and went for a longer walk and made a quick stop at a small local shop for ice cream. The drive back was peaceful — we felt refreshed… and a little hungry again.

What the kids didn’t know was that, when we ordered our meal earlier, we also snuck in a sushi order. So we ended our unexpected day with a sushi celebration.

Rain, fresh air, and sushi. That’s balance, right?

      1. One of my other favourite Latvian foods was Pīrāgi (I don’t eat meat anymore) my mum made them at home. Rūjienas I don’t know this word.

        1. Rūjiena is the city name, which makes good ice cream 🙂 (or at least did). Pīrāgi can be made with štovēti kāposti (cabbage) inside 🙂 or my kids love with cheese filling 🙂

          1. Ahh I see, haven’t been to that part of Latvia. Interesting idea for the Pīrāgi, will have to see if my sister can have a go at making them.

    1. 🙂 Thank you, Derrick! For my kids, it was a desaster, for me – got a day off from cooking and made an adventure out of it 🙂

    1. Never!? All the big cities are full of delivery services… Did you cook all the meals/birthday parties, etc, by yourself? I did that until I got sick, and now I enjoy having “day off cooking” occasionally. I’m the only one who cooks in this household…

    2. Maybe once a month we get take-away or go to a restaurant, but otherwise I cook. But there are usually just two of us and I make enough for leftovers so I don’t have to cook every night.

  1. Did the Manor people eat the food? Such a big oops by the delivery folks! I’m not a fan of eating raw fish.

    1. No, they delivered it to us! We got it 20min later 🙂 BUT, we just decided to go there and see how that manor looks 🙂 Our is better 😛 I love raw salmon…with cream cheese, lemon on white bread… yumm
