Last night, I didn’t fall asleep until 3 AM.
The full moon was shining brightly outside the window. Usually, I enjoy those peaceful nights and somehow seem to sync with that quiet energy. This time, though, it was different. My mind just wouldn’t settle, and sleep refused to come.

Perhaps that also set the tone for the day.
Apart from visiting the doctor — and not getting exactly the news I was hoping for — I spent most of the day indoors. It was simply too hot outside for me. The kind of heat where even the garden seems to slow down, waiting for the evening air to arrive.
Only around 8 PM did I finally step outside.
The first thing I did was water the plants. Not everything — only the ones that really needed it. The delicate ones, and of course my hay rolls.
Remember my plan to create a little pumpkin patch and cucumber jungle growing on top of the hay rolls? Well, this is the experiment I am watching closely this summer. It looks beautiful, but the heat makes it challenging. Plants growing on top of hay rolls dry out much faster, and when the temperatures climb, they struggle to get enough moisture.
Some people say that next year the rolls will have broken down more, turning into richer compost, and the situation will be much better. Hopefully they’ll hold water longer, and the pumpkins and cucumbers will have an easier time growing.
For now, I’m learning as I go.

Gardening is like that—you make a plan, nature makes its own plan, and somewhere in between you meet halfway. Sometimes the biggest part of gardening is not controlling everything, but simply observing, adjusting, and caring for what needs you the most.

And honestly… there is something magical about walking through the garden in the quiet evening after a hot day. The air is cooler, the plants look grateful for every drop of water, and for a moment everything feels peaceful again. Even forgot what doctor said 🙂

Looks like your garden is doing well and you’re learning what works and what doesn’t.
Thank you, Anneli! 🌱 I think that’s exactly what gardening teaches us — every season is a lesson. Some ideas work beautifully, others not so much, but I’m enjoying the learning process just as much as the harvest. How about you?
Same! I’ve learned so much over the years. Unfortunately that doesn’t mean I have a perfect garden now. Still learning.
I love caring for my flowers in the cool of the day. I hope you are OK, Ilze.
Thank you, Jean. 🌸 There really is something special about the quiet evenings in the garden. And thank you for asking — I’m OK, just processing some news and hoping the next steps will help.
Gardens are healing in their own way.
They really are, Kate. 🌿 Even on difficult days, spending time in the garden seems to quiet the mind and bring everything back into perspective.
Love the evening photos and the glorious moon ones . . . don’t quite like your tone after your doctor visit . . . should be able to write tomorrow . . . yes to the address 🙂 !
Thank you, Eha. ❤️ I’m still processing what the doctor said, but hopefully I’ll know more soon. The garden and the moon made the evening feel much gentler. And wonderful — I’m looking forward to what you have written!
Beautiful photos. Looking at those cucumbers tells me your garden is doing well. Happy to hear you were able to enjoy getting out to water and spend some peaceful time in your garden. Hugs ❤️
