The other day a package came and I asked – what is it? The answer was something totally unexpected: drywall stilts. Yes, there are tall, wobbly things construction workers use to reach high ceilings. The moment I saw them, I thought, This is crazy! You know we like to do everything on our own, but… there’s no easy way to get off when you fall, and let’s be real, you’re bound to fall at some point… on the concrete…

But, naturally, my husband was utterly convinced that he could effortlessly walk in them. When a friend Andis came to visit, they made the decision to give it a try. Andis put them on (with the help of us, of course), and before I could even blink, he was stumbling around our future living room. Also, Janis (hubby) tried them out and I was a bundle of nerves just observing.
It was half hilarious, half terrifying. Watching them attempt to walk and dance on those stilts was something else. But let’s be clear—neither of them was ready to actually work with these things on. Walking? Maybe. Using power tools? Absolutely not.
Have you ever seen—or tried—something like this?

Yep, half hilarious and half terrifying, but if I had to use them it would be 100 per cent terrifying.

Thank you for the comment! I totally agree—there’s something about those drywall stilts that brings out the extremes in emotions. The thought of being that high up with no stable ground under is nerve-wracking! Have you ever seen someone use them? In videos online they make them look like walking with just shoes on!

Me too, just on the Internet. One girl demonstrated how to put them on and how to plaster the drywall 🙂 Imagine – GIRL! 🙂

They must have enjoyed themselves 😊

Thanks for the comment! 😊 It definitely seemed like they were having a good time, despite the potential for a few wobbly moments. I guess there’s a thrill in mastering something that looks so tricky! Have you ever tried anything like that, or is there something that gives you that same mix of fun and a bit of fear?

Have you heard about electric unicycles? He decided one day that they’re a better alternative to driving to meetings and around town. At first, I thought it was a stylish choice, but now I’m starting to reconsider… 😄 I love him no matter what!

No way – even when I was young and fit

I totally get it! Even in my fittest days, I would have had second thoughts about trying something like that. Do you have any funny or challenging memories from your younger days that you’d be willing to share? I’d love to hear about them!

It’s amazing how certain items of clothing carry so much history and sentiment with them… Right?

Yes, indeed. I kept those trousers for years, continually patching them with different colourful fabric patterns. Unfortunately I don’t have a photograph. Thank you very much Ilze

I have seen people use them but I’m sure I would fall! 😂

You are the first one ever seen something like this 🙂 The first time I saw one was on Instagram reels and wondered why the algorithm suggested I want to see that… well, 2 weeks later I got the answer 🙂 Well, both said, that it’s not that terrifying once they are fitted… That didn’t convinced me 🙂

Oh dear! I’d rather drag a short stepladder around – or a stool (if I was tall!) but those look to me like an accident waiting to happen. I have a vision of transporting husband to A&E with a broken arm – or worse.
But I’m sure my grandsons would love them! 😂

Eeek! No, my worst nightmare to be honest! 😂

I agree! I see them every day in the corner of what will soon be the living room. There’s still a lot to do before installing the final layer of the ceiling. Hopefully, they’ll be lost somehow by then!
