Hello everyone,
As a newcomer to macro photography, my crazy life often left me little time to explore this fascinating field. Between work, health issues, renovation, and daily responsibilities, experimenting with close-up photography seemed out of reach.
However, with the arrival of spring and a rare free moment, I finally had a chance to dive in. Armed with my macro lens and my camera, I ventured into my garden, discovering the hidden beauty in spring.
I’m still a beginner at macro photography and have a lot to learn.

A good start. Assuming that your camera uses the little white-bound squares in the viewfinder, make sure they are on the parts you want to focus on and you won’t go far wrong

Thank you for your thoughtful suggestion! The little focus squares in the viewfinder are helpful for many situations. However, in my case, I’m using a camera with all manual settings, including manual focus. This setup gives me more control, but it also presents its challenges, especially when working with shallow depth of field in macro photography.
With a very narrow plane of focus, even a slight movement can shift the focal point, making it tricky to achieve the sharpness I want. Manual focus requires extra precision, and while it can be challenging, I find it rewarding to fine-tune the focus to exactly where I want it.

Having forgotten all I learned in the old days with film when everything was manual, I keep it simple – always on automatic

Absolutely! It’s amazing how point-and-shoot cameras have evolved. They’re so advanced now that in many cases, you can’t tell the difference from a DSLR shot. And you’re right—better to rely on the automatic settings and capture the moment than to miss a shot trying to adjust manually. After all, the best camera is the one you have with you! I have my phone with me all the time 🙂
