My love for birds began in early childhood when I joined the ranks of young dancers in Salacgrīva, not even 3 years old!
But wait Ilze, what is the connection to birds? Keep reading…

Just like the little ones today, we performed our dance spectacularly that autumn in 1985! The audience was thrilled. Then the host, whose last name was Dzērve (meaning “Crane” in Latvian), was invited on stage.
Suddenly, from behind the scenes, appeared—a little girl with golden hair neatly braided, eyes gleaming with excitement, and a face full of determined curiosity—and I loudly and joyfully exclaimed:
“Where is THAT crane!?”
Me? Oh yes… 🙂 This moment still makes me smile!
Needless to say, the audience was delighted! The little girl who so eagerly wanted to see the crane… just the crane… still wants to see and capture it!

Thank you for your kind words! I completely agree—birds are truly fascinating creatures. I’m glad you enjoyed reading about my first memory with them. Do you have any memorable experiences with birds or a favorite type of bird that you find particularly captivating?

at the school where I was teaching (3 and 4 year olds), a beautiful hawk came and landed upon a pole that had engravings about peace.. the kids were stunned and it was majestic.
