Day 4: A Different Kind of Day – Surgery, Final Dip and Rainbow

Day 4 was different from the rest of our time in Salacgriva. We had to make a trip to Riga with Linna, as she needed to undergo surgery. It was a dental procedure, and while it wasn’t her first, the thought of full anesthesia always makes me anxious. It’s hard to believe this was her third time going through this, and she’s only 10 years old.

Despite my worries, Linna handled everything like a champ. She was so brave and didn’t let the situation faze her. After the surgery, she was able to enjoy some prescribed ice cream.

Before leaving Salacgriva for good, we couldn’t resist one final dip in the sea. The beach was nearly deserted, except for a few dedicated kiters who were braving the terrible, cold wind. Despite the chill in the air, the water was still so inviting. Two of the girls decided to go in, and they enjoyed every moment of it. The kiters, dressed like it was spring, couldn’t help but smile and show big thumbs up when they saw the girls diving into the waves.

Once everything was done, we started our journey back home, feeling a bit tired but relieved. As we drove, something incredible happened – a beautiful rainbow appeared in front of us, stretching across the sky for more than a fifth of the road. It was almost two full rainbows, and while we tried to capture it, the pictures just don’t do it justice. It was one of those moments where nature reminds you of its beauty, offering a bit of comfort after a long day.

Linna’s strength, our quick dip in the sea, and that incredible rainbow, made the day feel a little lighter, even with everything on our minds. As we head home, I’m grateful for the resilience she’s shown, the joy of those final moments by the sea, and the small, unexpected moments of beauty that make life just a little bit brighter.

    1. She is the bravest of us all! She is only 10. She dreams of spending a year in Japan when she’s in high school. She’s been thinking about wind tunnels and bungee jumping… I encourage her, but I’m a bit of a scaredy-cat! Have you ever done anything adventurous like that?
