Second Advent and Small Victories

Yesterday marked the Second Advent, and we spent it together as a family. It was cozy and heartwarming to share a meal and enjoy some time together amidst the chaos of renovation.

I also made a small but meaningful improvement to our living situation: I laid down temporary flooring in one part of the house! Living on a rough, unpolished concrete floor has been challenging—it collects every bit of dirt and sand, making cleaning a never-ending task. For €120, I added this temporary flooring solution, and I already love the difference it makes. It’s not permanent, but it will serve us well until we can sort out the walls in this area. Honestly, I think it might take a year before we’re ready to tackle this part of the house fully.

On a more exciting note, this week should bring visible progress in the living room! Plastering and sanding are set to begin—fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly.

Every little step counts, and this feels like one of those small victories that make the big picture feel achievable.

  1. It looks so warm and cozy, Ilze! I totally get the idea of a temporary floor. We’ve been in a similar situation before, where home felt more like camping than living. Even small changes, even if they’re only temporary, can make a world of difference. It’s amazing how a little adjustment can make a space feel so much more like home!

    1. Thank you! 😊 You described it perfectly—like camping rather than living! It’s such a strange mix of excitement and discomfort, but those small adjustments really do make a difference…

    1. Thank you so much! 😊 As for the concrete floors, I don’t mind them too much—I’m pretty open to temporary “hard” living spaces like caravans, tents, or even unfinished rooms. It’s all part of the adventure while we work towards making this house our home! ❤️ But I’m not ready to live like this forever!

    1. This flooring is just a temporary fix for about a year. I’m not too keen on spending more money on short-term solutions—it’s just not my style. 😊 Our real vinyl flooring is already here, but the space isn’t ready for installation yet. So, for now, this will do! How are you doing?

        1. I didn’t realize you had health issues—glad to hear you’re slowly getting better! Fingers crossed for a smooth recovery and that everything goes well when the bandage comes off on Thursday!

              1. My stitches are coming out this week. Then it’s two weeks of taking it easy with the hand and not lift anything heavy. I can’t remember how long before it completely heals. Then I go back on the 30th and have Carpal Tunnel surgery on the right hand. It will be easy, the stiches come out a week later. This surgery was so bad because he removed a plate in my wrist from 2018 when I broken my wrist falling down the stair. I took the dressing off yesterday, still swllen nd bruised but the area where the stiches are is not red and looks good. Thanks for asking.

                1. You poor thing!!!

It sounds like you’re on the road to recovery, which is great to hear! Removing the plate from your wrist must have made this surgery tougher, but it’s good that the stitches area looks healthy. Hopefully, the swelling and bruising will go down soon. Take it easy with your hand, and fingers crossed that the carpal tunnel surgery on the 30th goes smoothly. Wishing you a speedy recovery—you’re doing amazing! 😊
