In the spirit of celebrating exceptional Latvian talent, it’s time to continue the story we started earlier this year with the incredible Flow by Gints Zilbalodis. The film has now earned one of the most prestigious honors in the film industry—the Oscar! Can you believe that!? The Flow is made using only Blender! Blender is a free and open-source 3D computer graphics software tool. Also, the budget for the film was just 25,000 euros. For example, Moana had $150 million.

This monumental win not only cements Flow as a masterpiece of animation but also shines a light on the extraordinary creativity emerging from Latvia. It is a testament to the power of hard work, passion, and innovation. Gints Zilbalodis’s unique vision, combined with a dedication to his craft, has brought a piece of Latvian artistry to the world stage in a way we could only dream of.
Congratulations to Gints Zilbalodis and everyone involved in Flow! This Oscar win is not just for them—it’s for Latvia, for all the creators out there, and for every dreamer who dares to imagine the impossible.
For a small country like Latvia (population is only 1.85 million people), this is a big win! A BIG!

Thank you, Herman! Some Latvians believe we shouldn’t celebrate and should focus solely on supporting Ukraine, but I believe this achievement is worth celebrating. We can honor both — showing pride in our culture while standing with Ukraine.

So true, I fully agree with you, Ilze. There’s a lot of bad things happening around us. The fact that we take some time to highlight something special that made us feel good isn’t wrong. It doesn’t mean that we forgot our friends in Ukraine and doesn’t support them anymore. We will stand by them whatever it takes.

Absolutely! Thank you for your kind words. I believe it’s important to acknowledge the good moments to keep our spirits up. It doesn’t take away from our compassion and support — it helps us stay strong and continue standing by those who need us. ❤️
