I decided to put out some pig fat with skin (the size of two palms together) to feed the birds. I’ve always loved seeing them come to visit, especially the blue tits — they’re so colorful and lively and love fat. I placed the fat just outside the door, on the garden side, hoping the birds would notice it and enjoy a nice treat.

It didn’t take long before they arrived! The blue tit wasted no time, flitting around excitedly, picking at the fat. It was such a joyful moment to witness. Also, Marley decided to sniff and try a bit, but that is not what the cat likes to eat 🙂 He stood there for a moment or so, watching the birds come and go until Helmi came running over, excited and wide-eyed.
“Mom! A huge black bird just took it all!” she exclaimed. Curious, I grabbed my camera (and coat, of course) and ran around the corner to see what was going on. Whoever it was couldn’t fly far with such a big chunk of pork!
It’s moments like these that remind me of the unexpected surprises nature always has in store. While I had hoped to share a bit of fat with the smaller birds, it seems that the garden has room for all kinds of visitors — big and small!
Can you guess the bird?!
