The Great Tomato Overpopulation of 2025

Remember this post?

Yesterday, I finally made time (though I had absolutely no will) to prick out the tomatoes. It was one of those tasks I kept putting off, but I powered through… and now I have around 120 tomato plants.

That’s 100 too many.

I only need about 20—some for my garden, and maybe a few extras to share. But here I am, staring at a tiny tomato jungle, wondering what on earth I’m going to do with the rest. Hopefully, not all of them will look great! Otherwise, I’ll have to start begging people to take them off my hands.

Or maybe I should just embrace the chaos and get ready for a full-blown tomato invasion. These aren’t just a handful of cherry tomatoes—we’re talking about classic, hearty beefsteak tomatoes. 🍅 If all of them thrive, I might have to start a sauce-making factory! 😅

Does this happen to you too? Do you always end up with way more seedlings than you planned?

  1. I have the opposite problem, never enough tomatoes! I am so jealous, lol. I like to make big pots of tomato basil soup and salsa, eat some, freeze the rest for later. And my favorite sandwich is a BLT. I could live off of what you have there, Ilze!
