March 23rd should have been a day of celebration—my best friend’s name day, a time for flowers, well-wishes, and maybe a little cake. But instead, she spent it in a hospital bed.
She fainted suddenly, and thank goodness her mother was with her. At the hospital, they initially thought it was dystonia and discharged her. However, the real cause turned out to be the painkillers she had been taking for her lower back pain. The instructions for the medication even mentioned that 1 in 10 people may experience fainting or vestibular disorders as side effects!

I visited her today, hoping to lift her spirits. We took a short walk around the block twice just to get some fresh air. Also, to support her, she is afraid to faint again! I so understand her! After a while, she had to sit down because her back pain started up again. It’s hard to watch her go through this, especially at just 36 years old. It’s such a heavy burden for someone so young and alone with two kids.
I feel so sorry for her. All I can do is be there for her and hope things get better soon.

I sure hope your friend feels better soon. While beneficial in many ways, medicines can also be a curse. A couple of years ago I passed out — at work — after a change was made to my blood pressure medicines. I sure don’t ever want that to happen again.

That sounds like such a scary experience! Medications can be so unpredictable. I’m glad you were okay after that, and I hope my friend finds a safer way to manage her pain. Thank you for your kind words!

You’re a great friend, there’s nothing like a supportive friend to make you smile and lift your spirits, even for a short time. Your friendship is a comfort to each other, now that’s good “medicine” for the soul. 😊

That’s such a sweet thing to say! I do my best to be there for her, and she’s always been a great friend to me too. Sometimes just being there and sharing a laugh makes a difference. 😊

It’s wonderful of you to be so supportive of your friend, Ilze. I can understand her back pain but I’m older. It’s hard to go through life to start the back problem at 36 years old. I hope her mom and family can help also especially with two kids. Thank you for sharing this.

Thank you, Miriam. Yes, it’s difficult to start dealing with back issues so early in life, especially with young kids to take care of. Her mom is helping, and I know she appreciates all the support she gets.

It’s hard to say if it will fully go away, but with the right treatment and care, she’s hoping to manage it well. She’s seeing doctors and trying different therapies, so we’re staying optimistic. Thank you for your concern, Miriam! ❤️
