Yesterday was one of those rare, golden days that remind me why I love spring. The sun poured through the windows, making everything feel warm and alive. For the first time in what felt like weeks, I could step outside and simply enjoy the light, the air, the feeling of the season shifting.
Before heading out, I noticed the daffodils in the vase on my table—how the sunlight caught their petals just right, turning them into little bursts of yellow warmth. I couldn’t resist taking a few pictures. They felt like a piece of the sun itself, glowing and bright.

But today, the sky has turned gray again. The light is dull, the air heavy, and with it, my mood has followed. It’s always hard to go from sunshine back to gloom, like being reminded too soon that warmth is fleeting.
Do you feel the same when the weather shifts like this? Let me know in the comments.

Ilze, you take very beautiful photos!! I 100% feel grumpy or at least a little bit down like this morning since the overcast has returned after such a beautiful sunny day yesterday.

Thank you, John! The warmth and light were so welcome, even if just for a moment. I hope you’re getting some sunshine too! 🌞

I always feel as if the sun will last forever. I am looking at just such daffodils at the moment.

That sounds lovely! Daffodils always bring such a hopeful feeling, don’t they? And I love that thought—when the sun shines, it truly feels like it could last forever. Enjoy those beautiful blooms! 😊🌼☀️

Your daffodils are so lovely! To be honest, unless I have something planned for outdoors, I don’t mind the rainy days. It tends to get very hot and dry here in the summer and any day of rain is one I don’t have to water my flowers 🙂 Plus, rainy days are days that I can sit and read guilt free, lol.

I prefer the sunshine but can live with dreary days too.

That’s a great mindset! Sunshine is always welcome, but there’s something peaceful about the quieter, dreary days too. They make the bright ones feel even more special! 😊☀️🌧️

Ilze, it rains six months a year here. The winter is gloomy and dreary. I remind myself that spring and summer always come. My daughter’s family goes camping and hiking almost every weekend in the summer to soak up the sun. That’s how it helps us get through winter.

That sounds like a wonderful way to embrace the seasons! Knowing that brighter days will come makes the gloomy months easier to bear. And spending summer outdoors, camping and hiking, sounds like the perfect way to soak up all that sunshine! 😊☀️🏕️

Those are from the store… I don’t have daffodils planted… But I want to plant few thousand 🙂

It wouldn’t be hard to do if it rains in the winter in your area, Ilze. You plant some each year and continue to add more every year. They’ll come back every year forever.

Yes, I know that – it’s just overwhelming. There was so much digging for the plumbing, geothermal system, electricity, and water. The entire yard was torn up, so starting fresh feels like a big task. We have rain and snow 🙂 Cold, but these flowers are the ones that can survive it. I will plant them for sure, just don’t know when 🙂

We didn’t have a garden when we first moved in. The backyard was a slope. We completely removed tons of soil, created a bigger patio and turf (fake grass) area, and two tiers of flower beds.
I can’t do without a garden, so I spent a lot of money to create a garden. Then I studied and figured out what plants and flowers grow well in the Pacific Northwest.

That sounds like an incredible transformation! It must have been a huge effort to reshape the backyard, but having a garden that truly works for you is worth it. Learning what thrives in the Pacific Northwest must have been a fun (and rewarding) challenge too! What are some of your favorite plants that you’ve added? 🌿😊 We have 7 ha (17 acre) of land and it doesn’t make it easier 🙂

Our weather has been shifting for over a month. One day it’s 90 degrees and the next in the 60s. We’ll have a couple more chilly days and then we move to Spring which is short and then straight into Summer.

That sounds like quite the rollercoaster! It must be tricky to adjust when the temperatures swing so much. I hope you get to enjoy a bit of spring before the summer heat settles in! 😊🌿☀️
