After more than a decade, it’s finally hanging again—the old retro chandelier from 1880. I can’t stop looking at it. It’s not much for others, but for me it’s everything.
I haven’t seen it up since 2012. Not because it was broken or forgotten, but because my brother didn’t like it. Back when he got our grandmother’s house, he packed the chandelier away, tucked out of sight. It wasn’t his style. But it always held something for me—memories, warmth, a sense of home.

When we were dividing things from our grandmother’s place, I didn’t want the house, but I did want the dining set. And with it came three treasures that mean the world to me: a buffet you all know, this chandelier and a framed picture. Neither mattered much to my brother, but to me, they are pieces of her. Pieces of everything I remember and love.

This week, Jānis hung the chandelier in our dining area. The moment it lit up, I nearly teared up. The light it gives is soft and warm, the kind that fills a room with calm. It’s familiar. It reminds me of my grandmother in the best way.
The room isn’t finished yet, but this light… it already makes it feel like home… together with buffet 🙂

P.S. Still need to figure out how to fix the canopy to stay up to the ceiling, to hide the fixing, wires, etc. It’s broken – not staying up, slides down…

Of course you want to keep it, for all it holds – and it looks good, too

Thank you, Derrick! I’m completely opposite to my brother – all new, shiny, and pointless…

What a beautiful object. And how lovely to have your grandmother’s things reunited in your dining room. I’m sure you’ll figure out a way to fix he defective part. Bon appétit!

Thank you! I love having old furniture… with meaning… or peace that has been loved and needs a new home. I promised myself (and kind a to my husband) – one old thing in one room 🙂

It’s always good to have some objects from your family’s history in your home. I have a kitchen table and wooden bench build by my grandfather. It gives me a good and warm feeling.

Oh, Herman, I understand you! My brother burned them before asking me… It’s sad!

Thank you so much for your kind words! It truly means a lot after such a long journey. There were moments I wasn’t sure this day would ever come, but now that the light is here, it feels like the house is finally breathing with us. ❤️
