We finally did it—all the trees are in the ground.
Remember the trees I brought home from the sad nursery? Read here: https://latvianmom.com/2025/04/29/a-spring-trip-for-trees/
For years, we dreamed not just of restoring the house, but of bringing life back to the land around it. Last spring, that vision began to take root—literally. We planted magnolia for the spring beauty, apple trees for fruit, chestnuts for the name, lilacs for their scent, and plums simply because we’d always wanted them.

This year, I couldn’t resist bringing home more. Apricot and peach for their summer sweetness, another chestnut—yes, again, for the name :)—schisandra berries for health, and cherry trees for their beautiful, juicy harvests. I also added mock orange, because I love its citrusy scent in early summer, and a climbing hydrangea, which I hope will one day cover part of our stone wall with soft white blooms, and a decorative apple tree with pink blossoms, just because it makes me smile.
Each tree was a small, muddy promise. The kids helped dig and ran off before the last one was even in. But I didn’t mind. These trees are part of our future—one that includes shade, birdsong, and maybe a hammock…
Nothing feels complete 🙂 I bet I will plant more!

Thank you! That’s exactly what I hope for—that these trees will grow alongside our family, offering shade, fruit, and memories for generations to come.

Well done planting the trees. It’s turned quite cold here too, 12 deg C today, but up to 20 deg C next week according to the weather forecast.

I know, right? It felt surreal to see snowflakes while planting in May. Nature always keeps us on our toes!

Once you start planting trees you will never stop – and most of them will out live you. It’s a great thought!

That’s beautifully said. There’s something humbling and hopeful about planting trees that will stand long after we’re gone.
