a day in the life of a latvian mom

Latvia is heading to the Eurovision finals this year, and it’s all thanks to Tautumeitas! The moment was announced last night, and I’m still smiling. There’s something incredibly powerful about seeing a Latvian group with such a deep connection to our roots make it to one of the biggest stages in Europe.

I’ll be honest — I’m not the biggest fan of their Eurovision outfit. It feels a little too much or too little 🙂 I understand that Eurovision is known for bold choices and visual statements, but I think their voices and elements from Latvian folk traditions are already stunning on their own. But hey, it’s Eurovision.

Despite my mixed feelings about the costume, I can’t deny that they’re good. Really good. Their voices blend beautifully, the energy is there, and the mix of traditional and modern is uniquely theirs. They’ve stayed true to who they are, even on an international stage, and that’s something I deeply respect. It’s not easy to bring folklore into pop culture without losing the soul of it, but they’ve managed to do it gracefully.

I’m proud. Latvia has had its share of Eurovision ups and downs, and this feels like a well-deserved moment. Whether they win or not, getting to the finals is already a huge achievement — not just for them, but for everyone who believes in the richness of our cultural heritage.

I’ll be watching the finals with a cup of tea in hand together with Nelle, she is a fan. And no matter the result, Tautumeitas have already made their mark.
