After sharing how I lost half of my tomato plants, I wasn’t sure I’d even write another post about them this season… but here we are. The second half of my tomatoes are now planted out—and I’m crossing all my fingers and toes. These are my last seedlings.
They were struggling in their pots (plugs!) —not getting taller cause the space is too small. I had to make a choice: replant them again in the bigger pots or give them a chance in their final spot. I decided to plant them out. To protect them from the cold, I placed empty water bottles over each one, creating little makeshift greenhouses. It’s not perfect, but I’m hoping it’ll be enough to shield them from any lingering spring frosts.

It’s hard to watch seedlings you’ve nurtured from tiny seeds start to struggle. The first batch grew too leggy, and when the frost came—despite all my efforts—I lost them. Now, it’s up to these last brave survivors. They’re small, but I’m hoping they’re fierce enough to make it!
I really don’t want to buy tomato seedlings. I want these to grow, to thrive, to be the tomatoes we eat this summer. Come on, little ones. Grow strong. 🌱💪
