Last weekend, we visited Salacgrīva—my hometown and a place that always brings back memories. This time, our trip had a special purpose: we were there to celebrate the grand opening of Ilona’s new nail salon!

Ilona, my brother’s wife, has been working hard to bring her vision to life, and seeing the finished salon was truly inspiring. It’s a cozy and welcoming space, filled with soft colors, calm energy, and little details that reflect her style. You can immediately tell it’s a place where people will feel taken care of—not just their nails, but their mood too.

We also had a lovely time visiting the beach. I thought it would be a bit windy, but it wasn’t! Absolutely calm. There’s something so grounding about the sea and also the dunes — it always reminds me to slow down and breathe.

Spending time with my brother’s family was another highlight. Simple conversations, shared meals, and laughter made the weekend feel warm and complete.
We came back home feeling refreshed.

Thank you! She really is amazing—there’s nothing she can’t do! 💪 Before this, she served in the police force, which was such a demanding job. But those intense raids took a toll—physically and mentally. It’s a line of work that can be especially hard for women in uniform.
I truly admire her strength and resilience. Have you or someone you know ever made a big career shift like that? It’s inspiring to see how people reinvent themselves!

After the death of my first wife, leaving me at 22 with a 14 month old son, I abandoned the security of a Marine Insurance desk and became a Social Worker. I never looked back

Derrick, thank you for sharing that—what an incredible and courageous shift. To step into such a challenging role while raising a young child after such a loss… that takes remarkable strength. It’s deeply moving to hear how you turned that experience into something meaningful. No wonder your words always carry such empathy.
Sending heartfelt respect your way. 💛
