I spent three days in Riga for a work event and stayed in a really nice hotel. The whole experience was refreshing — from the comfortable accommodation to the chance to spend quality time with colleagues and meet our guests, including clients and partners. It felt so good to connect in person again, especially when we all only work from home and mostly see each other on screens.

One particularly interesting chat was with a partner from Jakarta. We talked about life there and culture, and honestly, I couldn’t imagine living in a place with so many people and such intense traffic! I’m definitely more suited to quieter surroundings.
All in all, it was a wonderful few days — energizing, social, and just the right mix of professional and personal.

You wouldn’t do well in Las Vegas, Ilze, there are about two million people here and tons of crazy drivers. The food looks good, better than that gray sky! 😂

Haha, you’re right—I probably wouldn’t last long in Las Vegas traffic! Two million people and wild drivers sound like a sensory overload for me 😅 But guess what? I actually had a little slice of Vegas right here in Riga! The moment I walked into the hotel and was waiting for the lift, two men struck up a conversation with me. Turns out—they were ice hockey team managers from Las Vegas! Small world, right? 😄 Have you ever run into someone from home while traveling? And if you run into someone from Latvia, take a picture 🙂

So you also got to meet a hedgehog – I hope they are thriving in Latvia, better than in other countries. They are getting quite scarce around here, I used to see them all the time but now very rarely.

Hedgehogs are quite common in Latvia—but not so much in Riga! Still, wherever I go, nature seems to follow. Or maybe I’m just different—I take the time to pause and really notice it. 😊
What’s the weirdest or most unexpected nature moment you’ve ever seen in a city?

I’ll have to hink about that question.

What a nice change of scenery. Like you, I prefer to live away for the hustle and bustle.
