A Quiet Celebration for a Beautiful Soul

Today is my best friend Džeina’s birthday.

She’s not the type to make a big fuss about it. Most years, her birthday quietly slips by—no parties, no loud gatherings, no spotlight. That’s just who she is: modest, thoughtful, grounded. But this year, I didn’t want it to go by unnoticed.

So we celebrated in her beautiful garden, under the sun. Coffee, cake, and the soft warmth of friendship. Nothing fancy. No balloons or banners.

We talked about life (as we always do), laughed over little things, and savored the sweetness—of the cake, yes, but also of our connection. It reminded me how deeply important these small, sincere moments are.

Džeina, if you’re reading this:
Thank you for being the kind of friend who listens without judgment, who stays steady when life gets messy. You are truly one of a kind.

Happy birthday, my dear friend. May this year surprise you in gentle, beautiful ways.

Ilze

          1. You have two that were very different that I loved. One! was at my house and all my adult children came over with the grandkids. We had a walking taco party. Each person gets their own bag of taco chips and we made a giant taco bar and put whatever you wanted to make your own walking bag taco. We wore sombrero’s made a picture of margaritas had great Mexican music and dance inside and out laughed and just had fun. The other was a surprise my daughter’s arranged myself in a group of friends all met up at a Park all ages, kids and adults and we broke into small groups and went on a scavenger hunt all over the city and met at the endin a pub for dinner and drinks. Both were so fun.
