One of the containers I planted tomatoes in had a few holes at the bottom—nothing fancy, just enough for drainage. But with all the rain lately, it flooded a few times.

Turns out, the roof rain collector was clogged, and all that water ended up pouring straight into that one unlucky container. My poor tomato plants were absolutely tortured by it. They didn’t look happy at all. I change the location of the container, but it doesn’t look good.
Since I have plenty of tomatoes left anyway (thank you, other raised beds), I decided to dump the whole thing—soil, tomatoes, roots and all—into one of my still unfinished raised beds. Yes, I still haven’t finished them all. One day…
But that’s not why I’m writing today.
When I lifted the container, I found a tiny surprise hiding underneath—Helmī immediately shouted, “It’s a gecko!” It wasn’t, of course, but I smiled and let her enjoy the moment. What we actually found was a Triturus—a type of newt that usually lives in ponds or other wet places. I guess this rainy summer has been so wet that even our garden started to feel like home for it.

It was such a lovely reminder of how alive the garden really is, even when it’s mud and puddles. Life finds a way—even if the tomatoes didn’t!

I took some photos of a small lizard that lives in our tomato beds. I haven’t shown the photo yet but will soon. I took many photos that day in the backyard and I’m working through them. What a great surprise after a disappointment.

I can’t wait to see them! That little lizard sounds adorable — what a lovely surprise to lift your spirits. Backyard photo days are the best, and I’m so curious to see what else you captured!

I worked on the image this morning, when I add it to the post I’ll have a chance to see how good the photo is. It’s one of the light brown/grey lizards, the lighting has to be right to see it on a dark background. 🙂

When you post a post, those who subscribe usually receive a notification! Never from you. And I’m subscribed!

One place to look is under your subscription, make sure to mark to receive notifications. WP has changed up the process of following and it caught me by surprise as well. If you just subscribe but don’t mark how you want the post delivered you won’t receive a notification. If you have it marked correctly, try to unfollow and refollow to see if that solves the problem. WP has these types of glitches often. I’ve even had WP unfollow people, it can take a while to figure that out. Let me know how it goes. 🙂

Thanks so much for the detailed tips! I’ll definitely check my subscription settings and make sure notifications are properly enabled. The idea to unfollow and refollow sounds like a good troubleshooting step—WordPress can be tricky sometimes! I’ll try that and let you know how it goes. Really appreciate your help! 🙂

We have plenty of little lizards in our yard. I watch where I step so I don’t tread on one.

Oh, that is amazing! This isn’t a lizard; this one lives in the water in the summer. I think this comes out for winter.. or something like that..
