Yesterday evening, between bursts of rain and clouds that can’t seem to make up their mind, Linna and I ventured out into the field — straight into the furrows where our peas grow. They’ve been reaching out like hopeful little climbers, begging for something to hold on to. So, we brought out a roll of support netting and carefully stretched it along their row. One of those slow, muddy, meaningful moments.
And then… the mosquitoes came. Not one or two. Not even a dozen. I’m talking swarms. Like we walked straight into a live buffet — us being the buffet. It was awful. But also… we did it. The peas are supported now, standing tall with something to lean on, and that counts as a win in my books.

Meanwhile, it’s been raining non-stop. Everything is soggy. The furrows squelch. My boots have practically merged with the mud. I’m cold. I’m damp. I’ve forgotten what it feels like to be dry.
So, to everyone out there melting in a hot, dry summer — I propose a deal. Let’s all gather up our weathers. 🌧️🌞 Throw them in a pot, give it a good shake, and divide it evenly among us all. Fair is fair, right?
Until then, I’ll be here with tea, dreaming of sunshine and scratching mosquito bites while the peas get cozy in their new support system.

Ooooh I despise skeeters! I’ll be in Michigan for a few days being tortured by them soon. Grab some Cortizone 10 if you can, that stuff takes down the itching really fast. 😊

Ugh, Michigan mozzies are fierce! Thanks for the Cortizone 10 tip—I’ll add it to my anti-itch arsenal. May your time there be bite-light and breeze-heavy!

Thanks, Ilze. So far I’ve avoind the skeeter and deer fly bites – barely! I see them circling me waiting the opportunity to land. My cap comes ooff, swinging wildly to keep them away!!

You have the best ideas, Ilze. Love the idea to use the netting, and truly love the weather shake-up.

Thank you! If only we could actually swap weather like soup recipes—“I’ll trade you 15°C and rain for 2 days of sunshine and a dry breeze?”

Don’t worry 😉 They will be fine 🙂 Do they go to the Dziesmu un deju svātki concert?

I don’t know but will ask – she comes from Riga originally so will at least know what is going on!

I like your idea a lot, Ilze — maybe it would even out this crazy weather everyone seems to be having. We’ve had days and days of hot, humid weather, and then today — a gullywasher that flooded the town. Oh, and I HATE mosquitos!

A gullywasher! That sounds wild. At this point, I think nature’s trying to prank us. Sending dry thoughts your way… and lots of lavender oil per @LDSVenus’ advice!

Honest, lavender will relieve the itching of the mosquito bites, it’s very soothing to the skin. Citronella should keep them away. I use quality pure therapeutic oils and mix with a carrier oil, like fractionated coconut oil (fractionated just means it went through a process that keeps it liquid.). I put about 10 to 12 drops of oil in a 15ml dark tinted roller ball glass bottle and fill the rest up with the carrier oil and just roll it on my skin for protection and relief. They are small enough to fit in my purse so I always have the lavender handy.

hat lavender blend sounds perfect. I love the idea of keeping a roller in my bag. Definitely trying it—thank you for the recipe!
