Today, Jānis’s father started cutting the grass across all our 7 hectares — with a tractor, for hay. The storks kept a watchful eye over the whole process, like little supervisors in the field. I just love how everything looks after it’s cut down — so neat, fresh, and summery.

We eat salads every day now. If they don’t end up on the breakfast table, I make sure they appear at dinner. One of the raised beds is already almost eaten… but I still have two more beds to go! I hope the yellow net will keep the butterflies away 🙂 I also love how the pumpkin uses the net to climb in whatever direction it chooses 🙂

I keep thinking about cutting down and collecting the strawflowers, but then again… they look so pretty in the garden, swaying in the breeze, I can’t quite bring myself to do it.

To relax, I did a bit of watercolor painting today. My sewing project is still on hold — I’m waiting for all the supplies to arrive, but mostly for my mom to come on Saturday. She knows everything about sewing — she actually studied ladies’ tailoring. I’m sure she’ll guide me through it better than any YouTube video… and probably raise an eyebrow at my sillier questions.

My health is still a bit off — nothing hurts, but I have a slightly raised temperature. I needed 1,000 more steps to reach my daily goal, so we went outside for a walk under the starry skies. A perfect way to end the day.

We’re also getting ready for a photoshoot, which has made it hard to find the right time to blog — but here I am, catching up.

I’m jealous, you paint very well :).
You shouldn’t exercise when you aren’t feeling well, your body needs the rest to spend that energy to get well. Rest for the next couple of days.

Thank you! I’m not sure I’d call it painting — I mostly just doodle with watercolors 💛. But it’s such a calm, peaceful way to spend the day. You’re right about resting; I kept the walk very gentle, mostly just to enjoy the starry skies. Do you paint, or do you have another creative hobby that helps you relax?

I do love the cut grass for hay. It does look so tidy but especially productive.

Exactly! There’s something so satisfying about neat, freshly cut fields — it feels productive and peaceful at the same time. Do you work with hay or just enjoy seeing the fields like that?

I was brought up on a farm but now I’m over eighty. However around Ballarat in Victoria there is a lot of fodder cut for baling.
