Today is the day when, for a brief moment, day and night are exactly the same length. From now on, the days will slowly become longer than the nights. Even if it’s only by a few seconds at a time, the light will gradually win over the darkness.
I’ve always found this day special. It is a day of balance — a moment when nature seems to pause for a second before moving forward toward the light.
But for me, this day also carries another meaning. Today is also our middle daughter’s birthday.

I remember that twelve years ago I had brought branches indoors so they could start budding before Easter. For me, Easter meant the arrival of spring — the first buds, the first green leaves, the return of light.
But that year spring arrived in a very different way.
On March 18. That was the day our second daughter was born. Suddenly, all the other “signs of spring” didn’t feel as important or as real as that one moment. That day became my true beginning of spring.
And I remember realizing that from then on, spring would always be connected with this day.
Twelve years have passed, and only now I suddenly notice that this is also the date when day and night are equal. At least this year.
First year:

To spring.
And to life beginning again and again.

🙂 Thank you! I can’t believe it’s that time of the year! 🙂
A good reason to celebrate.
Of course 🙂 A kids birthday is always a good reason to celebrate 🙂
That’s lovely.
I can’t cope with snakes of any variety, so that’s why I didn’t “like”
your previous post. They give me the heebee-jeebees. I can’t watch them
on TV, can’t look at them. Ridiculous, I know, but there you are.
We are all different. Will you believe me when I say that 20 years ago I was something like you 🙂
Happy Birthday young lady! I hope your family has a wonderful day, Ilze. 🙏🏻😍
Thank you, John! We had a lovely day. Kids in school, Jānis working like crazy, and I was out in the garden 🙂 How was your day?
Good! Oh… I’m buying more radio equipment…
Minimalist style 😀
Expensive hobby!
I think we all need one expensive hobby 🙂
I have two, radio and photography. 😂
Gardening and photography…
A fine match, Ilze! I’d love to go on a shoot with you!
In LV or in LV?
In Latvia, I want to meet the people and see the towns and cities!
small cities 🙂 We don’t have huge ones. 🙂
Smaller is good! I know of some great small towns in Michigan where the people are very friendly. People here on the West Coast are just not as friendly as we northern folks are which is sad… Living here for 11 years has made this very clear.
Sad, right!? I’m also from the north.. north of Latvia 🙂
Sad, but it is what it is. I do miss the northern climate a bit but not enough to go back up there unless I really had to.
Happy Birthday to your daughter. Blessing to her and your family.
Thank you, Mags!
Beautiful!
Thank you, friend!
