A Wild Visitor I Always Love to See

This is a wild animal.

No one feeds it. No one pets it. No one tucks it into a cozy bed at night.

And yet… I have to admit, I would absolutely love to give this adorable European hare a cuddle. 😊

Of course, I won’t. Wild animals should stay wild, and that’s exactly how it should be.

Every time I see this hare again, it makes me smile. It feels like a little reminder that nature is thriving here. After all, this little fellow lives just outside our living room window! It must be finding enough food, shelter, and safe places to hide.

Well… I suppose I can forgive the four apple trees it destroyed. 😄 Next time we plant new ones, we’ll make sure to protect the trunks properly. Sharing our space with wildlife sometimes comes with a price, and I think seeing this beautiful hare is worth it.

There are, unfortunately, dogs roaming freely around here (something I don’t support). I always worry that they could disturb or harm wildlife. Surprisingly though, this bunny seems completely unfazed. Either it knows all the best hiding spots, or it’s simply learned how to live alongside the occasional neighborhood chaos.

Seeing wildlife like this never gets old for me. It’s a small moment that reminds me to slow down and appreciate the world just outside my door.

I hope this beautiful hare continues to visit for many years to come—always wild, always free, and always bringing a little joy to my day.

Do you have a wild animal that visits your garden or neighborhood? I’d love to hear what you’ve been lucky enough to spot!

  1. Lucky bunny to have ended up in your backyard . . . oh, I daresay his shelter is right under your house . . . and are you sure a bit of this and a bit of that in the food line is not occasionally left on the back step . . . 🙂 ?

    1. Haha, Eha! 😄 I promise I’m not secretly leaving little snacks on the back step! If anything, it probably helps itself to whatever it finds in the garden. And you may be right about the shelter—we’ve never found it, but it certainly knows this area better than we do. Have you ever had a wild animal become such a regular visitor that it almost felt like a neighbour?

    1. Isn’t it wonderful? I never seem to get tired of spotting wild animals. Every sighting feels special, even if I’ve seen them many times before. What wildlife do you see most often where you live?

  2. I love your blog! I was just wondering—why do you have ads? They can be a little distracting sometimes.

    1. Odd! l post from Australia and I am quite a lively blogger. Most of the people with whom I ‘talk’ do have ads on their blogs – I do not get ANY here with Ilze.

    1. Thank you, Mags. ❤️ I really believe we’re just sharing the space with them. Sometimes they nibble on my plants, sometimes they make me smile, and I think it’s a fair trade. 😊 What kinds of wildlife do you enjoy seeing around your home?

      1. I agree that we share space with them. I enjoy seeing squirrels, birds, opossums, raccoons, deer, turtles, rabbits, armadillos, now and then bats flying around my yard light at night.

    1. They really do have the funniest way of hopping, don’t they? 😊 I’m always excited when I spot one, even though this one has become a regular visitor. Have you managed to get any photos of the hares you’ve seen in your neighbourhood?

  3. It is wonderful sharing space with wild animals – definitely worth a little plant loss. We have some rabbits here, and love to see them roaming around the yard!
