There’s going to be a partial solar eclipse on August 12, and I’ve started hunting for the perfect place to watch it.
Technically, I could just stay in my garden. Here in Gulbene, the eclipse will begin at around 8:05 pm, reaching its maximum at about 8:56 pm — and spot in my garden might be sunny at the beginning of eclipse.
If I’m going to watch an eclipse, I want to make it a little more special. An open view, a beautiful horizon, maybe somewhere I can watch the sun slowly disappear behind the Moon.
My first idea was Salacgrīva, watching the eclipse set over the sea. That would be pretty magical — but it’s also quite a drive for an evening. So I started looking closer to home. And I think I found a spot.
I’m not saying where just yet. 😉 I want to see it for myself first, and I’ll share it later if it turns out to be as perfect as it looks.

I just looked it up and here in the south part of Canada we won’t see much, if any of the eclipse, but you should have a pretty good look at it in Latvia. So I guess we’ll hear all about it on the day after it happens. I think it’s August 12 for the eclipse, so we’ll expect a post about it on the 13th, right? Have fun.
Haha, yes, August 12! 😄 And now I feel like I’ve been given a deadline — I guess there has to be a post on the 13th! 😂 Hopefully I’ll find my perfect spot, get a clear sky, and actually see something worth writing about. Fingers crossed!
