Double “Get Back” to Normal

You know that feeling when you’re sick, and life feels like it’s on pause? Then, as soon as you’re better (or “better-ish”), you realize the world didn’t pause with you? That’s where I am right now. First day back to work after being sick, and let me tell you—it’s not a vacation.

Working from home made it a bit easier; I could sneak in a nap from 11:00 to 12:00 because I just couldn’t concentrate. Even so, I ended my workday earlier than usual. My body said, “Nope, not today,” and I had to listen. It’s like my energy reserves forgot how to fill up.

Before getting sick, I already felt like I was trying to “get back” to a sense of normalcy—whether it’s from renovation chaos, constant moving, or just life. Now it’s a double “get back,” trying to recover from illness and regain momentum in everything else.

And then there’s the bigger question: WHERE DID NOVEMBER GO?!?!

One minute it was pumpkin carving and cozy movie watching, and now it’s almost December. Time flew by while I wasn’t looking, and I’m left playing catch-up.

For now, I’ll remind myself that recovery isn’t a straight path. It’s okay to slow down, give myself time to rest, and accept that I don’t have to do everything at full speed right away. A warm cup of tea, some time puzzling, and a long bath over the weekend sound like the perfect ways to help me really get back to normal…

But wait—it’s only Monday! 😅

How do you handle those moments when you’re trying to recover and keep up with life? Share your tips—I think I could use some!

  1. You’re doing great, just take it one step, one task at a time. Myself, I can’t seem to feel normal since the time change. I know it was only an hour but I’m hungry at the wrong times, sleepy all the time, and just kind of dragging through my days right now. And where did November go, indeed, lol.

    1. Thank you! 😊 Taking it one step at a time is exactly what I’m trying to do—sometimes easier said than done, right? The time change always throws me off too! It’s like my body refuses to adjust, even for just one hour. I completely get that dragging-through-the-days feeling. Hopefully, things settle down for both of us soon! And yes, November seems to have vanished into thin air—how is it almost December already? 🫣

    1. John, I hope I’ll remember this: half-throttle! 🙂 I had to Google it—I understood the meaning of the sentence, but I needed to check which part of the engine the throttle actually is! 🙂
