In my previous post, I shared how cottage cheese pie is one of my ultimate comfort foods, tied to childhood memories and family celebrations.

If you missed that, read it here: https://latvianmom.com/2025/01/14/kissel-and-cottage-cheese-pie-a-taste-of-childhood/
Now, I’d love to share a simple recipe to bring this delicious treat to your kitchen. This version is close to the one my family used, perfect for when you crave something comforting and slightly tangy, with just the right amount of sweetness.
Cottage Cheese Pie
This is desert from my childhood, cause it's served with Ķīselis (kissel)

Ingredients
- 1kg cottage cheese
- 5 eggs (divided)
- 150 grams butter melted
- 250 grams sugar (about 1 1/4 cup)
- 150 grams flour (about 1 1/4 cup)
- vanilla extract and/or natural lemon flavor (lemon zest)
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk the egg yolks, sugar, and a pinch of salt until the mixture is pale and creamy, ensuring the sugar dissolves. Stir in the cottage cheese, melted butter and flour until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the cottage cheese mixture, being careful not to deflate the batter.
- Grease a baking dish with butter or oil. Pour the batter into the prepared dish.
- Bake for 50–65 minutes, or until golden and set in the center.
I hope you will enjoy Cottage cheese bake, pie or… whatever the right English name 🙂

Yummy
I’ll try this if you make it, Ilze! ❤️
Challenge accepted! ❤️ I’ll let you know when it’s ready! But don’t forget you’ll need the passport for that 🙂
I sure will need that, Ilze! 😂❤️
There is a very similar cake from my husband’s part of Sweden. I love it!
How wonderful! It’s amazing how recipes can connect us across cultures. I bet the Swedish version is just as delightful! The same region 🙂
What a lovely recap of your week! It sounds like your trip to Napier and Hawke’s Bay was filled with wonderful sights, delicious food, and some much-needed relaxation. I loved hearing about the Art Deco architecture, the scenic waterfront walks, and your bookstore visit—Wardini Books sounds delightful!
The sculpture Ecliptic caught my interest, and your fresh produce haul is inspiring. Maple and walnut ice cream sounds heavenly, and it’s great that you found joy in simple pleasures like pizza from a food truck and beautiful roses.
Thank you for sharing your week—it’s a reminder to find beauty in the everyday and savor small joys. 😊
I love cottage cheese.
Then you might love this nostalgic dessert 🙂
Hello Ilze, last time I was in Latvia we visited a young relative of my aunt and she had just baked some of these, really delicious.
Hello! That sounds wonderful—freshly baked treats always taste extra special, especially when shared during a visit. She probably added raisins too—that’s a classic touch that makes them even more delightful! Also, if it had the base layer of dough, then the name in Latvian is “biezpienmaize” 😊 Maybe it’s time for another visit to relive those flavors. 😊
Yes, she added raisins 😊. Glad you posted the recipe, I’ll have to have a try at making some. I know it’s time I visited Latvia again, maybe this year.
Let me know; we can meet up! I’m not good at leaving the house, but Gulbene, Valmiera, Cēsis, Smiltene, Cesvaine, Madona, Balvi, and Alūksne are the places I can go 🙂
That would be really good, my relatives have transport and live in Riga so any of those places would be ok to meet up.
Then Cēsis or even Sigulda if they are in Riga 🙂
Really like both of those places 👍
If you decide to visit Latvia, let me know!
I will.
This looks too good to be good for you.
It’s really good 🙂
