Last night, we stepped outside for a walk. I couldn’t sleep. The reason? I felt full after eating a croissant. Why did I eat it at 9 PM?!

But at least the night made up for it. The sky was cloudy, and the tree silhouettes stood tall and still, making the world feel peaceful and quiet. The snow crunched under our feet, and for a moment, everything felt just right.
It turned out to be a beautiful night after all.
Do you have a late-night snack you regret (or enjoy)?

I don’t eat after dinner. Excellent photograph

When do you usually have dinner? The problem in our household is that if dinner is at 6 PM – 7 PM, the kids get hungry again before bed. They become grumpy on empty stomachs, and it’s a struggle to get them to sleep.

Fully understood. That is when we eat, but we have no children now and are in bed by 10.

Yes, but I eat them a bit earlier.

Around what time?

Right after dinner so probably 6pm. I changed to that time when I started my weight loss journey two years ago. I lost 75 pounds.

It’s so easy to do. I did it slowly by changing food amounts not so much what I ate. It took two years to get where I’m at but glad I did it slowly because now they are habits. I still eat a piece of cake on weekends and a piece of chocolate a day. My meals are significantly smaller than before. Rarely do I snack. You can do it if you find a slow plan that works for you. If you rush it, the weight only comes back. 🙂

This is a good idea. I had already cut back a bit, but with this whole dental saga, my anxiety has me snacking again. I just don’t have the willpower to change anything right now. Maybe after the living room is finished? 🙂

The first change you will have to make is saying and believing you have the willpower. I didn’t eat a single salad, eat the same exact meals just in much smaller portions. Good luck.

That’s a great perspective! Willpower definitely plays a huge role, and portion control can make a big difference. Everyone’s journey is different, and I’m still figuring out what works best for me. Thanks for the encouragement!

What a lovely night walk! I work a mix of shifts so dinnertime can be tricky. When It’s 8am-4pm I eat normally, but sometimes it’s 2pm-10pm and that’s a little harder. I don’t like to eat a big meal at work because it makes me sluggish, so I usually have a bowl of cereal or something when I get home. Kind of late to eat, but I guess I have gotten used to it.

That makes sense! Shift work can definitely make mealtimes tricky. Do you find that eating late affects your sleep, or have you fully adjusted to the routine? How long have you been working shifts?

Maybe the sugar in the croissant kept you buzzing?

Yeah, maybe! But I just felt way too full afterward. I think I should have gone for something lighter.

Perhaps this is a nutrition issue? Can you eat more veggies or, red or white meat like pork?

I eat a bit of everything and try to include more vegetables. But this time, it felt like too much food in my stomach—as if it just stopped working and rebelled against me for eating that croissant! 😆

Wow, no more food like that for you! I ate chicken and pork yesterday, white meat is better for you.

Too much meat is not 🙂

I agree and don’t eat meat every day but had to cook the remaining pork chops this morning in the oven before they go bad, yummy!
