Linna’s Unforgettable Birthday: Laughter, Games, and a Meowing Surprise

Birthdays in our family are usually quite traditional—but not when it comes to Linna!

Here’s how it all went: First, we greeted each girl with a welcome pack filled with essentials—slippers (since half of the house still lacks flooring), a sleep mask and earplugs, a toothbrush and toothpaste set, and, of course, a lollipop. They absolutely loved it!

Kids these days don’t eat like we did, so Pizza, fresh veggies and Chips/French Fries was for the dinner. The rest of the party was a mix of board games, VR, Nintendo/Steam games, and a “cheese please game” – where you have to guess whose voice is it.

Linna never been a fan of the usual “Happy Birthday” songs, and she has no favorite cake. So we all knew better than to start singing it. Instead, the birthday spirit took a more unexpected and hilarious turn, thanks to Nelle. I got a small brownie to stick the candles in. It might not have been a towering cake, but it did the job just fine!

As we gathered around to celebrate, Nelle suddenly started singing the “Meow Meow” version of Billie Eilish’s song. If you haven’t heard it, just imagine Billie’s deep, moody tones but replaced with an endless stream of perfectly timed “meow meow meows.” It was absolutely ridiculous—and absolutely perfect. Linna burst into laughter, and soon the whole room joined in, some trying (and failing) to keep up with the meowing melody. Marley was confused…

The party went on until 2 AM, but the next morning, everyone was up by 8 AM and stayed with us until 6 PM. They went out for a long walk, played more games, and helped cook a delicious meal—salmon with steamed veggies, pasta, and sausages for lunch/dinner. It was a full day of fun and good food! 😊

I needed a cup of coffee and some sweetened popcorn to get myself started on cleaning. Thankfully, my girls pitched in and helped! 😊

In the pictures, you can see half of the living room with its warm terracotta wallpaper. It’s not entirely finished—there are still small details to complete—but it already feels like home. In a way, this felt like our first housewarming party! 😊

P.S. There are a few cakes that Linna loves. But I am too tired and too busy to bake one last minute. These are the cakes she loves: Carrot cake, Orio cake.

        1. Almost 5 km, that isn’t far! When we first moved here, the biggest challenge was grocery shopping—you couldn’t just run to the store for a missing ingredient! 🙂 In the city, we lived close to the shops 🙂

      1. I often mention to parents in the grocery store with energetic small kids that I’d like to have some of their energy! I am still very happy with the new flooring. Looks great, SUPER EASY to keep clean too. Waterproof. Expensive! 😭 I follow the company that did the install on Instagram…
