Last autumn (see here: https://latvianmom.com/2024/10/27/planting-tulips-and-daffodils-our-winter-greenhouse-experiment/), we planted tulip bulbs in terracotta pots and left them in the greenhouse (see here: https://latvianmom.com/2025/02/17/bringing-winter-into-the-greenhouse/), curious to see if they would sprout earlier than those in the garden. With winter behind us, we almost forgot about them—until about two weeks ago, when we spotted the first green shoots breaking through the soil!

We wanted to see if keeping the tulips in a slightly warmer and more sheltered environment would encourage earlier growth. Terracotta pots provide good drainage, and the greenhouse protected the bulbs from excess moisture and harsh winter conditions. So far, it seems to be working!

Now, we’ll keep an eye on them, making sure they get enough water and warmth as spring progresses. Hopefully, we’ll see their first blooms soon!
Have you ever tried overwintering bulbs in a greenhouse? 🌷😊

They’re starting to appear—yes! I suppose if the pot is placed under cover to shield it from the autumn rain, it should grow well.
