A Few Blooms, A Lot of Land 🌸

As you know, I have land—a lot of land. Seven hectares (17 acres – for friends on the other side of the pond), to be exact. But what I don’t have (yet!) is a real garden. No flower beds, no borders bursting with color, no carefully planned layout. Just open space, dreams, and a greenhouse that’s seen better days.

Back in 2020, I did make furrows and gave it a go, but between house renovations, kids, and life—well, let’s just say the garden didn’t quite take root. Read more here:

So imagine my joy when I spotted a few blooms here and there this spring. Tiny signs of life, color, and hope popping up through the earth like gentle reminders: “We’re still here.”

It’s not much, but it’s something. And in a place like this—where nothing has really been cultivated for decades—it feels like a small miracle. And I have rhubarb and old gooseberries are starting to wake up.

These early blooms make me want more. More color, more life, more of that quiet joy that comes from seeing something you planted months ago bravely reach for the sun. I hope I’ll find the time, money, and spark to plant more bulbs this autumn. No pressure. Just a wish tucked away between everything else going on.

For now, I’m just enjoying the few flowers I have. Their quiet presence is enough to make this land feel a little more like home.

    1. Thank you! I hope I’ll have the energy to do that..and a bit of money cause Latvians are practical and do as much as they can by themselves 🙂

  1. I only have 2-1/2 acres and when we bought this I went crazy with planting. You will have so much fun and as fast as plants multiply you can either trade with friends or replant elsewhere. I love your pictures!

    1. Thank you so much! I love hearing that—I can totally imagine going a little planting-crazy too! I’m already dreaming about swapping plants with friends and seeing what thrives where. It’s such an exciting journey, and your encouragement means a lot!
