Saturday night turned into early morning. I couldn’t fall asleep—wide awake until 4AM. Maybe it was the full moon, maybe it was the one cup of cola I had (and I never drink caffeine!), or maybe just life’s current chaos, but sleep simply wouldn’t come.
I had restless legs, and I stepped outside, thinking some fresh air and movement might help. Jānis also couldn’t sleep, so we went for a walk.
My heart dropped. Just the day before, I had brought out the seedlings—tomatoes planted in boxes, hoping to finally give them space to grow after weeks of being stuck inside. I trusted the weather. It was time. Or so I thought. The Frost covered the grass and blooming dandelions…

In a panic, I rushed to bring the remaining seedlings back indoors. Then I ran to cover the planted tomatoes, ran to the greenhouse, and hoped it wasn’t too late for the strawberries.
I still can’t believe it—my iPhone had forecasted +2°C (35.6°F) as the lowest temperature that night. When I stepped outside and saw the frost, I opened the app again—still +2°C. But Jānis uses AccuWeather, and his showed -2°C (28.4°F). That’s a huge difference. Cold and Freezing cold!
Maybe it was the full moon, maybe it was that rare caffeine buzz, or maybe just some strange garden instinct that pulled me outside. Whatever it was—I’m so glad it did. And more happy Jānis came with me 🙂

Now I wait to see what survives. So far, it looks like everything made it through.
Gardening keeps reminding me: nothing is guaranteed, but we keep planting, hoping, and trying anyway.

Now that is a problem you wouldn’t get if you were here in Ballarat. Maybe once or twice it freezes. But the Nordic gods were looking after you.
