This weekend felt like a little celebration—I finally planted out the monthly strawberries I grew from seed earlier this year! Watching them grow from tiny specks in the soil (it takes a lot of patience; they grow slowly) to strong little plants has been a gratifying process.
These aren’t your usual garden strawberries; they’re monthly strawberries (also called alpine or wild strawberries). They can handle colder weather. We still deal with unpredictable spring nights here in Latvia.

I chose this variety not only for its resilience but also because I love the idea of having small, flavorful berries ripening throughout the season, not just once. Adding them to the breakfast musli would be a dream 🙂
Here’s to sweet things growing, slowly but surely. 🌱

I had wild strawberries planted as ground cover on a steep slope in my garden some years ago, and was thrilled at the thought of the delicious fruit, but then we discovered that the foxes were taking a short cut through our strawberry patch. Their urine often contains parasites that can be transmitted to humans, so we sadly had to forego the pleasure of eating our wild strawberries. Better luck with yours!

OMG! I would never think of that!!! I think I might be addicted to this idea! We don’t have foxes… maybe a few somewhere around, but not close to the house.

Thank you, Peggy! I can’t wait for the weather to be “normal” again! All will “die” if the rain continues 😦
