A Little Star in the Bush

This morning started like any other – I was making tea and preparing to dive into work, when a surprisingly loud chirp-chirp-chirp pulled my attention toward the front door. I peeked out and there it was – a great tit, perched confidently in the bush just next to the entrance.

The sound was so sharp and clear that I first thought it might be inside the house! But no, the little bird was right there, boldly chirping its heart out just about two meters from where I stood. I stood there for a while and then I grabbed my camera.

Whatever the reason, it felt like a small but special gift—one of those ordinary miracles I might have missed if I hadn’t stopped to listen.

Have you ever had a bird come so close and just stay there, as if it was perfectly fine with your presence?

  1. A beautiful photo, Ilze! I have had Hummingbirds stay on the feeders near me while I am refilling or cleaning the two birdbaths. I basically freeze until the bird moves. I can’t feed seed here because of the darn Rock Pigeon problem. Nasty birds…

      1. Sure thing, Ilze!! 😂 An old friend of mine in Michigan used to have pigeons, he would release them at a specific location, then drive to where he knew they were going to collect them. Cool!!

  2. Tits can be surprisingly bold. In the woodland park near my last home both tits and squirrels were so used to people feeding them that they would come and eat from your hand. You only had to hold your hand up with a finger outstretched, whistle softly, and a bird would come right away and perch on your finger. Quite a feeling!!

    1. Wow, that sounds magical! I can only imagine the feeling of a tiny bird trusting you enough to land on your finger like that. I’ve tried this winter, never happened 🙂
