This weekend, we went to Salacgrīva to celebrate Ilona’s birthday — my brother’s wife. She threw an 80s-themed party, and it was such a fun throwback!
It’s always a bit funny dressing up for the 80s in Latvia, because unlike the flashy Western pop-culture vibe most people think of, our 80s were different. Latvia wasn’t free back then — it was the time of Soviet queues, plastic shopping bags with logos from abroad (if you were lucky), and homemade disco lights in school halls.
This time, we had the chance to go full neon — thanks to Temu!

Despite the wind (and it really was windy), the weather held up — no rain, thankfully! It wasn’t exactly warm, but when you’re dancing, laughing, and catching up with family, you don’t notice the chill as much. I came for the šašliks (Shashlik)!
We left feeling tired but happy, already wondering when the next themed party might be.

I wish I could go back to the 80s! 😭🔥❤️
Me, not so much 🙂 I was born in 1983.. so my 80’s wasn’t that good 🙂
Sorry, Ilze. For me the 80s was a ten year party! 🔥😍😎🍻
🙂 Good for you!
Thanks! I wanna go back!
It’s not possible!
Yes, it is, in my head! 😂 I’ve often wondered though if older decades are still happening in different realities.
Looks like a great time.
Thank you.
A fun way to celebrate.
Thank you, it was fun! I wasn’t in the best mood—had a bit of a sore throat and felt a little off—but I still really enjoyed it
Looks like lots of fun.

Thanks, Janet! That was fun. What’s the last themed party you attended?
Fun party, Ilze.
Thank you, Mary!
