We had terrible winds, so we decided to escape to Salacgrīva this weekend. We had problem, the road was blocked, but we know other way around.
In Salacgriva I think I almost melted. The weather was absolutely beautiful… if you’re a lizard. The sun was so strong that even standing still felt like an activity to me.
But despite the heat, it was such a lovely weekend. There is something special about Salacgrīva. Even when the temperature makes you feel like you might turn into a puddle.
One of my favorite moments was spending time with my brother’s family. His son was so excited to show me everything. First came the new football outfit—he is a huge football fan and was very proud of it. Then came the strawberries he is growing in the garden, and after that, the cherry trees that are producing so much fruit this year.
I love seeing that kind of excitement. When you are a child, a few strawberries you grew yourself or a tree full of cherries feels like the biggest treasure in the world. Later, we walked and cycled down to the pond to check if the water was nice enough for a swim. And then, just a few steps from home, we got a little surprise—a pair of roe deer quietly appeared nearby.
So close to the house!
Nature really knows how to surprise us. Sometimes you don’t need to travel far or search for something special. Sometimes magic is just waiting a few steps away, hidden between the garden, the pond, and the trees.

Oh Ilze – how you are bringing childhood memories back to me . . . the look of the countryside, the quiet contentment of being one with nature . . .I remember how proud I was when some of the plants I was trying to grow in little pots actually flowered . . . ‘look, what I did’ 🙂 !
Yes, that is something you need to experience! i’m walking around the garden and enjoying my “from seed” projects.
