The Storm That Almost Was

Well… we made it… (sorry for not giving an update sooner). This is about this post:

We were right in the middle of the alert zone, but the worst of it swept past us on both sides. Just a few kilometers away, people got hit with massive hailstones crashing down hard enough to dent cars and ruin gardens. I’ve seen pictures, and I’m still in disbelief. Nature can be so wild in its unpredictability.

Here, we had thunder. Wind. Heavy rain that came down in sudden sheets and soaked everything in minutes. But no hail. No falling trees or flying debris. We were lucky.

“I’m not sure why I didn’t share this earlier, but thank you, Derrick, for your comment. It gave me the nudge I needed to post the update.

That strange tension from a few days ago feels like it finally cracked. The air is lighter. I slept better last night.

It’s crazy how fast the sky can shift — and how powerless it makes you feel in those moments. One moment you’re picking meadowsweet under a blazing sun, the next you’re watching the sky with tea in hand, waiting for it to decide what kind of evening it will be.

I’m reminded again that it’s okay not to be ready for everything.

Stay safe,
Ilze

    1. Whoa, that’s wild! I’ve seen some intense hailstorms here in Latvia too, but nothing even close to basketball-sized! Was anyone hurt? I can’t even imagine the sound that must’ve made crashing through metal like that…
