Why I Try to Walk 10,000 Steps Every Day

These vacation day posts changed my style of blogging completely 🙂
I need a post about things I care about or experience, not a diary about each and every day…

I spend most of my workday sitting in front of a computer, working with people. I’m not complaining — I love my job — but sometimes the days are full of emotions I don’t want to name. By the end of the day (or in he middle of the day), it can feel like my head and body are full to the brim.

That’s why I walk. Longer walks help me feel like me again. It’s not about chasing a magic number or following a rule — it’s about clearing my mind, shaking off the stiffness, and letting the fresh air reset me. I live in a very nice countryside, dirt roads, and no chemicals on fields.

I don’t walk all 10,000 steps at once — I can’t. My legs would protest, and I’d be limping home. But I’ve learned that a short walk doesn’t do it for me. If I really want to feel the difference, I need at least 3 km (about 4,000 steps) in one go. That’s when the tension finally loosens, the thoughts slow down, and I can breathe more deeply. I always start with “oh I can’t do it, everything is hurting, doesn’t feel good” and end with “I can’t believe I did it, somehow I feel better”.

By the end of the day, my steps add up. 10,000 isn’t a strict goal; it’s just the rhythm my body and mind need to feel balanced again. And every single time — no matter how tired I feel before — I come back feeling better. Always.

Do you walk?

    1. Absolutely! Some days are easier than others, but even a short walk feels better than nothing. How do you motivate yourself on the days you really don’t feel like moving?

  1. Isn’t it interesting what it takes for each of us to find that happy place with peace and that it’s different for each of us. I’m glad your’s is taking a walk several times a day to make a certain number of steps by the end of the day to help you find peace and balance. Hope you have a great day!!

    1. Yes, it really is! Walking has become my little daily reset, and it helps me feel grounded. What’s your favorite way to find peace during a busy day?

  2. Oh, I more than can understand your reasoning – how much healthier to deal with outside stresses this way rather than reach for a pill bottle ! I just don’t know I would feel the need to count steps and make this another ‘must do’ part of life 🙂 !

    1. I get that! For me, the “step count” is more like a gentle rhythm than a strict goal — it just gives me a sense of completion. Do you have a different way to reset after a stressful day?

    1. Yes! You surprise me every time I ask you something :). Have you found any activities that are kinder to your knees but still help you stay active?

      1. I like them both. There’s nothing like a walk outside on a beautiful day. When it’s too hot, cold, wet or I don’t have much time, the walking pad is perfect. I can walk a bit, start dinner, walk again, finish dinner . . .
