Girls are feeling much better. We went out together, and it felt so good to mark the day with a little outing. Helmī was glowing, of course—birthdays always bring that special sparkle. And what did she order to drink? Not juice, not soda, not even a milkshake… but water. With an umbrella. Yes, with an umbrella! 🌸

It was the sweetest thing. She held her glass proudly like it was the fanciest cocktail in the world, sipping happily as if she had just invented the best birthday tradition ever.

And I think I just found the hugest hydrangeas!

Sometimes, the smallest details make the biggest memories. And for me, that glass of water with an umbrella summed up the joy of celebrating together, feeling well again, and being present in the moment.
Happy Birthday, Helmī! May your year be as cheerful and unique as that little umbrella in your drink. 💛

Thank you! It feels a little strange 🙂 When I think back to Nelle at that age… and Linna too… Helmī still seems like the youngest in every way. I have a feeling she’ll always be our ‘little one’ 🙂

Sounds like a memorable day for her. I love Hydrangeas, they are one of my favorite flowers. Those are huge.

I don’t like them 🙂 Except if they look that huge 😀 OR Blue! But I think it’s not possible to get them here in Latvia.

To get them to turn blue you have to use certain products to produce the color, it’s the same way here.

Oh, I heard something like this… but I thought somewhere else it’s “natural”

I googled: Most hydrangeas grown in Latvia — especially the paniculata (skaru hortenzijas) and arborescens (koku hortenzijas) — are naturally white or creamy-green and stay that way. They don’t react to soil pH, so no amount of aluminum sulfate or coffee grounds will make them turn blue or pink. These varieties may change shade a little (from creamy → lime green → pinkish as flowers age), but not to bright blue or purple.
