When the days are dark and cold, this is what feels right. The smell alone already feels like home. It reminds me that comfort doesn’t have to be complicated — sometimes it’s just a warm plate, familiar flavors, and the feeling of being grounded.

I don’t think we have the Latvian grey peas in my country, we do however have a pea that looks much like it and is called ‘grauwe erwten’, wich means, well, grey peas. 🙂 I love them, with bacon and onions, yes, and with some sirup on top. Not everybody agrees with the syrup, I know, but that is how my mother taught me to eat it and mom’s will is law. 🙂
