Edible Cookie Dough (Safe to Eat!)

Sometimes the best part of baking cookies is not the cookies themselves — it’s the spoonfuls of dough before the tray even reaches the oven. I did that all the time when I was a kind.

Now it’s unsafe for many reasons (well, I still do!), so my kids find the safe recipe.

This recipe is perfect for that kind of fun because it’s made to be eaten raw. There are no eggs, so it’s safe to eat straight from the bowl.

Here is the recipe

Edible Cookie Dough

  • Servings: 6 servings
  • Print

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (heat-treated if you prefer)
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Heat-treat the flour. Place the flour in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for about 1 minute 15 seconds, stirring every 15 seconds. Let it cool.
  2. In a bowl, beat the softened butter and brown sugar until creamy.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and salt and mix well.
  4. Add flour and mix until a crumbly dough forms.
  5. Pour in the milk and mix until the dough becomes smooth and soft.
  6. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  7. Enjoy immediately or chill in the refrigerator for a firmer texture.

Wait for the video! They think it’s funny 🙂

  1. Lol. I can still see myself and my brothers clinging on to my mothers apron begging for a spoonful of dough. 🙂 I didn’t care so much about the cake she was baking. But the dough! O my…

    1. Haha, same here! 😄 I remember doing exactly that — standing in the kitchen, waiting for that one precious spoonful of dough. The cake was nice, of course… but the dough was always the real treat – I was not allowed… Somehow it just tasted better straight from the bowl!
