The final warm days are here, then back to +8℃.
While we’re working on bigger things around the house—the kind that take weeks (or months) and, in the end, somehow don’t even look that big—I felt the need for a small, visible win.
So I decided: enough thinking… it’s time to choose a color and just do it.

I painted our outdoor table and benches. And honestly—yeah! It felt so good to see something finished in a single day. No overthinking, no endless planning. Just action.
I love the color. It fits our house so well, like it was always meant to be there. That quiet kind of satisfaction.

And the best part? The kids helped. A bit of paint here, a bit there, some laughter in between. It turned into one of those simple moments that I want to remember more than the “big” milestones.
Sometimes, when everything feels slow and never-ending, this is exactly what we need—a small project, a clear result, and a reminder that we are moving forward.
What do you think?

Sounds like a fun time was had, and yes the joy of getting a job finished is wonderful!

Thank you! Yes, there’s something so satisfying about finishing something in one go—it almost gives energy for the next thing 😊
Do you also like to mix in small projects when you have bigger ones going on?

At the moment I take getting out of my recliner (that I am sleeping on) and getting dressed is a major achievement! (I still can’t manage stairs after a broken leg).

That sounds really tough—just getting up and dressed is a big deal in your situation. A broken leg changes everything for a while, and it makes sense that even small steps feel like achievements.
Honestly, I can relate in a different way—I work from home and sometimes spend half the day in pajamas too. Different reasons, but it reminds me how much the “simple” things aren’t always so simple.
I hope each day gets a little easier for you 💛

Thank you so much, John! I was a bit unsure at first, but now it really makes me smile every time I see it 😊
Would you have gone for a bold color like this, or do you prefer something more neutral?

More neutral, but your color choice is perfect!

Looks great! What a pop of color all year round. I seem to remember you saying the second story has not been updated, what’s upstairs? Wow, the house must be large.

Thank you! Yes, I wanted something that would brighten even the grey days 😊
And you’re right—the upstairs is still waiting its turn. Right now it’s mostly empty space and storage, but one day it will become bedrooms. The house is quite big… sometimes it feels a bit too big for our current pace 😅
Would you finish upstairs first, or focus on making the main living space just right?

You house is very old so it’s hard to say but I would go the route you’re going only throw in an upstairs project along the way. Do you have bedrooms downstairs or are you camping in the house if you will?

Not recently. Being a renter I am limited with what I can do to my house. But the first home I ever owned that was all mine, a 1920’s cottage, was rather a fixer upper. I refinished hardwood floors, painted every room, wallpapered, replaced molding trim and switch plate covers… Each small project I completed was a celebration!

There is a five-year gap in my blog. The years following my divorce when I was reeling and trying to find my footing again. I bought the house and did most of the repairs at that time. Unfortunately, I didn’t document my progress, either with my house or my mental health, during those years. But I will say, the house rescued me as much as I rescued it 🙂

Thank you for sharing this part of your story. I didn’t know that you were going through a divorce during that time, but it really makes your words and your journey even more meaningful. I’m sorry it was such a difficult chapter. It’s amazing how you were still able to build something so grounding through it all. And I really love how you describe the house as something that held you as much as you held it ❤️
