My Lost Recipe Box

I think I’ve finally realised I’m never going to find my recipe box.

For the past year and a half, I’ve kept hoping it would somehow turn up. I’ve looked everywhere — more than once — but it’s not coming back. And that makes me really sad.

It wasn’t just a box of recipes. It held the recipes that actually meant something to me — the ones we loved, the ones I made again and again, the ones worth writing down.

And all of them were handwritten.

I might be able to find some recipes again, but I can’t replace those handwritten cards. I can’t recreate my notes, my handwriting, or the little collection I had carefully built over the years.

I know I could start again. I know there is probably a bright side somewhere.

But right now, I’m not sure I can look on it.

  1. I get it, Ilze. My smudged, spattered recipe cards in my mother’s handwriting are some of my most precious possessions. I will say a little prayer that your recipe box turns up when you least expect it 🙂

  2. Ilze – You are a logical person . . . I know this is easy to say and not easy to do, but it is ‘no use crying over the spilt milk’. If you have been looking out for the recipe cards for all this time methinks they have somehow been thrown out with the rubbish . . . horrid, horrid, horrid! BUT – try to accept this and begin refinding from friends and relatives. I remember back to my childhood and losing all our photos to two homes being bombed and burnt . . . I was still able to get copies of photos from friends and relatives a decade later . . . each was a joy . . . slowly, write down which ones are gone and think who else might have a copy 🙂 ?
