It’s peony season again.
My mother-in-law has so many different peonies growing in her garden. Every year they put on a beautiful display, but this year one flower completely surprised me.
My daughter brought me a single yellow peony.
I had never seen a yellow peony before. Pink ones in every shade? Yes. White and creamy ones? Of course. But yellow? This one felt truly special.

I placed it in an old smoked glass vase that once belonged to my grandmother. I’ve loved that vase ever since I was a little girl. It now sits on an old buffet that I also admired throughout my childhood. There is something comforting about filling old, familiar things with fresh flowers.

If you’re curious about the story behind the buffet, you can read more here:
The most surprising part wasn’t even the color.
It was the scent.
Just one flower filled the entire room with the sweetest fragrance. Every time I walked past it, I had to stop for a moment and breathe it in. It reminded me how powerful simple things can be—a single flower, an old vase, a cherished piece of furniture, and memories that quietly connect one generation to the next.
Sometimes the most ordinary summer moments become the ones we remember the longest.
