Today was supposed to be garbage collection day.
I even gave the bin a little pep talk before wheeling it out.
“Today’s your day, buddy.”
It wasn’t. Nobody came.
Then I remembered the phone call I got at the end of June from the new waste collection company.
“Hello! We’ll be taking over from July.”
“Great!”
“But the previous company will empty your bin one last time, so we’ll see you in August.”
Perfect.
Except… here we are. It’s August.
The bin is still waiting. I’m still waiting.
I think even the spiders are starting to wonder if this is their new home.
The good news is that we recycle almost everything, so it’s not quite the disaster it sounds like. The bad news is that a month’s worth of rubbish is still… a month’s worth of rubbish.
Tomorrow I’ll call them to ask what happened.
Although I already have a feeling how the conversation will go.
“Oh yes, we see your request…”
“It’s still In Progress.”
“So… when will you collect the bin?”
“September.”
Because, obviously, sending a garbage truck all the way out here just for my one rebellious bin (system error) would be far too sensible.
At this point I’m starting to think my rubbish has become part of a long-term storage project.
Wish me luck. My garbage and I have become quite attached to each other.

Am I understanding correctly they only pick up your trash once a month? That would not be a problem for me, as I only have a bag or two a week, but for many around here that would cause an uprising, lol. I hope you get it sorted out soon 🙂
That is not a problem for me as well! But they didin’t pick it up! That is a problem, cause next time will be in September – 2 month of trash… I have only one bin and it’s full!
Have you taked with the leader of the trash dept? I understand you’re far out there, the bottom line is if they say your trash will get picked up, that’s what you need to do. Do you already have a compost bin? Throw you food in the bin, once a week move it around. You’ll get great compost for your plants and trees. If I were having a bad day and in your situation, I would take the trash to there office and make they empty it.
I compost and recycle as much as I can, but when the waste collection company changed, this was the result! 😅
I think it was simply human error. They called me a couple of months ago and said, “We’ll take over in August.” Apparently, they forgot to activate the contract in their system. We also had to register on the new company’s website, which I did… and yet, here we are with a month’s worth of rubbish still waiting to be collected!
That’s a downside to living far out in the country. Frustrating but it will work out.
Well, that is downside of “big companies” everywhere 🙂 I depend on garbage collector. Actually I’m not that far out, only 3,5km (2 miles!) from city…
