The Swift Transition of Latvian Autumn

In Latvia, autumn’s transformation is a breathtaking spectacle that can shift dramatically within just a few days. One moment, the landscape is a vibrant tapestry of golden yellows, as the trees flaunt their autumnal hues, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Remember these pictures from 2 weeks ago?

But as the days pass, a different palette emerges. The brilliant yellows begin to fade, and a muted gray starts to blanket the scenery.

Now the scenery looks like this:

I bet you even can’t see the deer family, they blend in well!

    1. Absolutely, each month has its own beauty! October feels vibrant and alive, while November brings a calming, quiet beauty. This is my view when I walk to my greenhouse—thank you for appreciating the landscape. 🍂🏡

    1. It sounds like winter is settling in! The bare trees can be quite a sight, though there’s a certain beauty in that stillness. Do you enjoy the colder months, or are you more of a warm-weather person? ❄️🌳

        1. Each season really does have its own charm! I love sunny, snowy winter days, with everything bright and crisp—definitely not the gray, rainy ones. Autumn has its beautiful colors and cool, cozy weather, and spring brings everything back to life. Summer in Latvia is getting warmer, which I don’t love, but those perfect, breezy summer nights (the ones that keep mosquitoes away!) make up for it. It’s like nature’s way of giving us the best of each season!

                1. Just for fun, yes! But it’s usually outside the city. We don’t always enjoy their presence, though, since they tend to ‘drive’ through our fields, making a mess and being a bit aggressive on our private land. With 7 hectares to manage, it’s hard to fence it all in! Plus, we love having wildlife roaming around, so we wouldn’t want to block that off anyway!

                  1. That’s 17.3 acres, a nice chunk of land, Ilze! It would indeed cost a lot to fence it in. All you can do is post No Trespassing signs and hope that the riders will respect the signs. I miss snowmobiling…

                2. Yes, 17.3 acres—I double-checked! Trust me, fencing that off just won’t work! It’s best to stay relaxed and let them enjoy the fields. Besides, a little dark humor never hurts: let’s just hope they move on soon! (Just my grumpy Latvian sarcasm at play!)

                    1. That is only on weekends and there usually one or two, who don’t respect private property – but then again, all fields around us is private property. Roads and Forests are where they can go… let’s skip this subject… till the snow comes 🙂

    1. Thank you! The change is drastic. The few colors are still there when the sun shines, but now it’s more cloudy or rainy. And with the rain and clouds and wind all the colors are on the ground 🙂
