The Return of the Doe Family

Yesterday, I saw them again—the doe family that had visited throughout the winter. It was a quiet and peaceful sight, one I had almost forgotten in the bustle of everyday life. They had come regularly when the ground was covered in snow, searching for food, their graceful forms blending into the stark landscape. But by February, they had disappeared, and I wondered if I would see them again.

Now, with spring awakening, they have returned. As you can see in the picture, the first blades of fresh green grass are pushing through the soil, a welcome change from the dull browns of winter. And the doe family is just as delighted by it as I am. They nibbled on the tender growth, moving carefully yet confidently across the land, their ears twitching at every sound, always aware of their surroundings.

Watching them felt like a small gift—a sign that the seasons are shifting, that life continues in its quiet, steady rhythm. It reminded me to pause and appreciate these simple moments, the ones that connect us to nature in the most effortless way.

Spring is here, and with it, the return of old visitors. I hope they will stay a little longer this time.

  1. Beautiful, Ilze. If you want them to stay, plant an apple tree, lol. I had one on my property right here in the middle of town and I had a steady stream of visitors every morning 🙂

    1. That’s a good idea… except I already have five apple trees, and the deer aren’t used to crossing the open field. There’s no shrub cover for them to hide in, so they prefer to stay near the edge of the field where there are trees and bushes for shelter.
