A Lingering Illness…

Hi everyone,

I’m still struggling with a stubborn cough and the occasional spike in temperature. It all started at the end of October, and at first, I thought a few days off from work—using up some of my vacation days—would be enough to get me back to my usual self. I really believed I’d be back on track quickly. But here I am, still not fully recovered. On November 4th, I had to take a sick leave, and I haven’t been able to return to work since.

This sickness is sticking around far longer than I expected. I can’t remember ever having such a long sick leave before!

At first, I thought it would be a short recovery, but as the days stretch on, it feels like I’m never quite fully back to normal. It’s a frustrating experience, as my usual routine has been completely thrown off. Between trying to rest while keeping up with work, the fatigue has been overwhelming at times.

I’m really looking forward to getting back to my usual self. Thank you to everyone who has reached out, your support means so much to me. I’m doing my best to rest and heal (while living in the renovation/construction site).

I hope to be back to full strength soon! Until then, I’ll be taking it easy, trying to stay comfortable, and maybe catching up on some cozy reading (and hoping for no more temperature spikes!).

Take care and stay healthy,

Ilze

  1. There is so much sickness around right now. What you describe here sounds like what half of my coworkers are experiencing — achiness, fever, sore throat and a cough that won’t go away. I pray it will run its course soon. And what a beautiful photo!

    1. It really is that time of year, isn’t it? That’s exactly what we’ve been seeing around here too—achiness, fever, sore throat, and that lingering cough. I hope it passes quickly for everyone. And thank you! The only visitors at the feeder these days seem to be the tit birds, but they’re always a lovely sight.

  2. Wow, Ilze, I am sorry this illness keeps a hold on you, so frustrating! I wonder if this is Long COVID? In any case, I hope you feel 100% very soon my friend. The bird looks like a Chic-a-Dee but it’s not. Wrong colors, yet I don’t know what specie it is. 😂

  3. My wife and I also have those symptoms. I’m 90% well, but this is the end of Week 5! It’s Covid for me–I’ve got the pink lines on the tests to prove it. I hope yours isn’t Covid.

    1. Thank you for sharing, and I’m sorry to hear it’s been such a long recovery for you and your wife! Five weeks sounds exhausting, but I’m glad to hear you’re 90% there—hopefully, the last bit of recovery comes soon. I haven’t tested positive so far, but I’ll definitely keep an eye on it. Wishing you both a full and speedy recovery!

  4. Hoping you are feeling some relief by now. Moisturizing the air with a pot of slow boiling water or using a vaporizer could help relieve dry sinuses and throat. Pneumonia is spreading here quickly and the coughing last 4 to 6 weeks, even after antibiotics. Good luck with your health dear 🌻
