Celebrating Latvian Excellence: Gints Zilbalodis and “Flow” at the Golden Globes

As a proud Latvian, my heart swells with joy to see our creative spirit shining on a global stage. At the 2025 Golden Globes, Latvian director Gints Zilbalodis’ Flow triumphed against industry giants like Disney’s Inside Out 2 and Moana 2, as well as the latest Wallace & Gromit and The Wild Robot. Winning Best Motion Picture (Animated) is not just a victory for Zilbalodis but for our small yet fiercely talented nation. Imagine? This is THE FIRST TIME!!!!

A Story that Resonates

Flow tells the poignant tale of a cat displaced by a devastating flood. With breathtaking visuals and a minimalist narrative, the film captures raw emotion without the need for dialogue. Instead, it relies on the natural behaviors of animals.

This simplicity, combined with deep emotional resonance, sets Flow apart from its competitors.

A True Latvian Triumph

Latvia is known for its rich culture and creative minds, and Flow is a testament to the power of our storytelling. It’s amazing to see Gints Zilbalodis competing—and winning—against Hollywood heavyweights, proving that small countries can produce world-class art.

As a Latvian, I feel incredibly proud of Gints Zilbalodis and his team for bringing this honor to our nation. Let this inspire us all to pursue our dreams, no matter how big or small. After all, greatness knows no borders!

💚 Ilze

              1. Yes, of course. We need our drivers license or some form of proper ID for bank transactions and much more. Fraud is a serious problem these days by people who use the technology for evil purposes.

    1. Thank you! It’s incredible how everyone is reacting to Inside Out 2—the shock is real! The budget for Inside Out 2 was $200 million, while Flow managed to do it with just $3.6 million. The contrast is mind-blowing!
